WHO AM I?

Demet Orbay

Demet Orbay received formal training in painting, sculpture and performing arts in Turkey, followed by contemporary art studies in Germany. This diverse foundation shaped her multidisciplinary approach, where drawing, land art and material-driven experimentation form the core of her practice.

Working with an extensive knowledge of materials, Orbay uses a wide range of mediums—most prominently oil paint—while her land art pieces are created from natural, sustainable elements found in the environment. Her artistic research often explores the human body, psychology and the subtle emotional states reflected through line, form and space.

Orbay held her first solo exhibition in Kaş before moving to Europe, continuing her practice with installation-focused projects in Berlin. Since then, she has participated in numerous cultural and artistic events in Turkey and abroad.

For the past five years, she has also played an active cultural role in her region by contributing to local artistic life as a volunteer director at Kalkan Culture House.

She currently lives and works in Kalkan Art Cave, where she continues developing new drawing series, land-based works and contemporary art projects.
